DAY 1 – Friday, June 27
After all of our hard work and the generous donations from many of you, we are finally on our way. 16 of us left Summit Drive Church this morning at 10:30, and thankfully we all managed to arrive safely in LA.
We drove from Kamloops to Seattle, which was going pretty smoothly until we hit Seattle traffic. That’s when the time pressure really started to kick in. After arriving at the park’n’fly an hour before our flight, we piled all 16 of us into the the 12 passenger van, with our luggage. Let’s just say it was a mighty tight fit, and required a lot of spur-of-the-moment creativity, but we made it work with no complaints at all. When we got the airport, we had to rush to get our boarding passes and check in the 2 boxes of quilts that we brought with us. Hurrying through security, I can gladly say that no one got into any trouble. (Leaders are doing a great job so far, I’d say :P) After that we rushed to our gate, where our section of the plane was just boarding. It was only once we were already on the flight that we discovered that our plane had to make a tire replacement and was being slightly delayed. I guess God really wanted us to make the flight!
Our plane ended up leaving Seattle between 8:45 and 9:00. Oh, I have to mention. It was Andrew’s first time EVER on a plane, which is super exciting 😀 Kid flew like a champ. Anyway, the flight went well. I don’t think anyone got sick, which is another plus. I know that Ben and I got to talk to a couple of random guys on the plane, and both of them were Christians. The guy I talked to was Tade (pronounced TA-DAY), and he was on his way to a Christian conference where they were going to expound the second half of Genesis. He was reading a book on etiquette because his Canadian girlfriend told him he should – I thought that was kinda funny.
We arrived in LAX at 11 and got a ride from there to our hotel. Kind of seemed like a sketchy area, but it worked out. After a midnight snack (supper) at Jack in the box, we had a quick team meeting and went to bed!
I just want to let you all know that we are doing great, and I look forward to being able to share stories of how God is working in our lives, and in the lives of those we were able to connect with along the way.
